Rivers Port Complex

Historically, the Port was built in 1913 by the Colonial Administration of Sir Frederick Lord Luggard for the sole purposes of transporting goods and services - both locally and internationally.

The Rivers Port Complex comprises of Port Harcourt Port, Okrika Refined Petroleum Oil Jetty, Haastrup/Eagle Bulk Cement Jetty, Kidney Island Jetty, Ibeto Jetty,Macobar Jetty and Bitumen Jetty.

Port Harcourt Port has been concessioned to 2 (Two) Private Terminal Operators namely: Messrs Ports & Terminal Operators Limited (PTOL) and BUA Ports and Terminal Limited. Thus by implications the Nigerian Ports Authority is no longer in charge of cargo handling (both for import and export).

Other services provided by the Port Authorities include pilotage services, towage services, pollution control and bathymetric surveys/dredging of the channels.
The Port is also involved in Joint Venture Operations between Nigerian Ports Authority and the Bonny Channels Company (BCC), the channels from Bonny to the Ports is vigorously being dredged to accommodate Large Ocean-Going-Vessels.
