Nigerian Ports Authority Collects Only Legal Fees
The attention of the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been drawn to media reports arising from a Press Conference addressed by the Vice President of the Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria, Capt. Emmanuel Omotayo.

The Terminal Operators at the occasion were alleged to have accused the NPA of collecting certain fees outside the terms of Concession Agreement with members of the group.

Contrary to these reports, the NPA does not charge any cargo dues of USD3 payable by Terminal Operators.

For the avoidance of doubt, only the following are paid by the Concessionaires to the NPA - Commencement Fees (PAID ONCE), Moveable Assets Fees (PAID ONCE), Lease Fees (FOR THE DURATION OF THE CONCESSION) and Throughput Fees (PAID ON CARGO HANDLED FOR THE DURATION OF THE CONCESSION).

The Nigerian Ports Authority is fully committed to the Port Sector Reform and would ensure the promotion of Policies aimed at facilitating trade through quality service at the least cost.

Members of the Association should recognize the major achievements being recorded in expanding Channel capacity, Safety, Towage and Pilotage services.
